Green Tara and “Supplication to the Seven Protectresses” by Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon
The Baghavati Green Tara represents the compassionate activities of all buddhas. She protects from the eight perils: the eight outer perils like fire, water, poison, robbery, disease, etc. and the eight inner obstacles like ignorance, wrong views, pride, anger, envy, stinginess, avarice, and doubt). She offers protection and guidance to all sentient beings, inspiring and leading on the path to the higher realms and closing the door to the lower realm. Abiding in the unborn Dharmadhatu, she helps all supplicants to realize the absolute pure nature of their mind and reach complete precious liberation.
While practicing in the Echung cave, Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon, the great Dharma Lord and founder of the Drikung Kagyu tradition (1143–1217), had a vision of the Seven Taras. He realized Mahamudra, complete precious Buddhahood, and at that time wrote the “Supplication to the Seven Protectresses” containing unconceivable great blessing.
